WIP Hobbit Feet by damnitsasha WIP Hobbit Feet by damnitsasha
I am working on hobbit feet. I am in the process of making a Merry Brandybuck costume, but I will likely make a few other hobbit costumes as well. I already have Frodo's hair, so that will have to happen at some point, and I will likely not be able to resist a Bilbo Baggins costume. Mostly, though, I just want to wear these feet everywhere! I can't wait to add the hair, but I have to finish painting first. You can probably see the difference between them already, I will keep at it.

looking good! i did this a few years ago (they ended up on BoingBoing and all over the internet so maybe you saw them?) and it worked out so well. They lasted through trick-or-treating and unfortunately my son outgrew them so they are just sitting in the costume box now!

Can't wait to see the finished feet! Have fun :D

Ah, cool, you were probably the ones I saw that gave me this idea! Thanks for being a genius, your design has served me well for many a con. There is at least one finished picture in my gallery somewhere.

They came out great! lol so hairrry :p I bet they got a lot of comments! Props to the sculptor at the "funny feet slipper" factory, they're great raw material to work with for *cheap* and some paint really makes them look awesome! Lame as slippers, great as Hobbit Feet! lol these were mine [link]

Yep, yours is the one that inspired mine! I've sent that link to people before, too. A guy I know was talking about sculpting himself feet like they used in LoTR and I suggested he perhaps check out your method because walking on latex would ruin it quite quickly.
This year at Dragoncon our group joke costume was a "sexy" Fellowship of the Ring (to make fun of some of the just plain silly costumes people make sexy). My favorite part was people's reactions to seeing fishnets stretched over hobbit feet!

I'm soooo making a pair of these too! Just ordered myself a pair of funny feet and got some white slip-on shoes. Can I ask what you used to paint them? Fabric paint? Or is acrylic ok?

Totally just used acrylic, the dollar bottles of cheap craft paint. I glued the feet on with super glue and the hair hides the seam. Matching my skin color was a pain in the ass, it's apparently more blue/olive than I thought. It looks spot on in person, but all photos of it make it look off. I thought of putting some of my foundation on them but then got lazy and also forgot.

These are looking fabulous! The second I saw them though, I thought of these: [link]

I have a pair myself. If you ever consider wanted your tows to actually wiggle, maybe a pair of these would be something you could work with.

Even if you don't though, what you've done here is amazing and you rock! ^_^

Oh man, those look so uncomfortable to me. I can't stand toe socks and if they feel anything like that, no way.
I liked this method of hobbit feet because it makes my feet look bigger and it was already sculpted with the nails and veins and such. Those would be a really good way to do any barefoot costume, though!

YES. Did you make them out of five-fingers? I've been wanting to sew big ol' toenails on to mine.

Oh the hair is a must :D But the veins and all, i mean, there is some serious detail in those feet! Great job

Well, I didn't sculpt the feet, they were some weird rubber foot slippers that I cut up and attached to canvas shoes. I did paint the veins blue, but I can't take credit for their existence.
